Rosco 5 win Gold at Straight 8

January 21st, 2020

Big congratulations to Rosco 5 for their Gold win at the Straight 8 Shootout.

The boys represented Spindle in the shootout with their film, For the Record, which follows Gideon’s unusual world record attempt. The shootout rules are simple but fiendishly difficult: in-camera editing on super 8, no post-production, make an original soundtrack without seeing your film, and for shootout every film gets played at the premiere, regardless of how – or whether – it came out. It’s a great event to be involved with and we look forward to the next one!

Welcome Rosco 5

November 20th, 2019

We are absolutely delighted to announce that award-winning comedy writers and directors Rosco 5 have joined Spindle.

Rosco 5 are Behnam Taheri and Gideon Beresford. Their lens on the world brilliantly transforms observations of the everyday and mundane into surreal comedy short films and commercials.

They first gained industry attention with ‘Open Wide’, made for Channel 4’s Random Acts. The NSFW comedy short, starring Robin Soans, definitely has a happy ending, where a man doesn’t expect his visit to the dentist to take such a startling, and perhaps satisfying, turn. The film has been receiving wide acclaim across the festival circuit, most recently being awarded Best Dark Comedy Film at the Houston Comedy Film Festival.

Their most recent short film, ‘Insecurity Questions’, stars Kiell Smith-Byone (Channel 4’s Stath Lets Flats) as Spencer, who is trying to get through to his bank, but the updated security questions force him to reflect on some of his biggest flaws. It features a cast of some of comedy’s most exciting new talent and has been widely praised on the festival circuit, most recently picking up a win at one of the world’s most respected short film awards, Discover.Film.

Alongside commercial projects, the duo are also in development with two of their original television series and a Lee Anderson feature script.

Shots feature Aldona Kwiatkowski

October 8th, 2019

Big thanks to Shots for their great write up on Aldona Kwiatkowski, and how she is ‘changing the face of automotive advertising’.

In an interview with David Knight, the two discuss Aldona’s career to date; how she has fused automotive commercials with a fashionable flare, and the necessity of the female gaze.

Tam Tam wins Gold at Kinsale Shark Awards

September 19th, 2019

‘Tam Tam – Outside the Lines’ won GOLD at Kinsale Shark Awards for Best Documentary Short. Huge congratulations to all involved.

Directed by Greg Hackett, this short film documents the frustrating situation of an Italian basketball team. Their skills could top the league but Italy refuses them access to compete, as immigration rights mean they aren’t seen as citizens.

Also, congratulations are in order for The Coles for their Best Direction nomination at Kinsale for their short film, Present Day Athens, which follows a local sheriff and his unique approach to his duties in the dusty, forgotten town of Athens, Texas.

The Coles join Spindle for UK representation

September 16th, 2019

We are absolutely delighted to announce the addition of comedy and performance directing duo The Coles to our UK roster.

The Coles, siblings Sophie and Walker, are known for their bold, contemporary storytelling. Their work has a confidence of pace that allows their sophisticated cinematic visuals, striking casting and nuanced humour to really breathe.

Born in Manhattan, they were raised on set in a filmmaking family and spent vacations and days off from school PA-ing and assisting on various commercial projects. After graduating, Sophie began working as a costume designer on films and commercials, and Walker worked as an art dealer in LA. However, after collaborating together on a film project, they found their individual talents complimented each other perfectly, and joined forces as a directing duo in 2016.

The Coles first gained industry attention for a series of impressive spec commercials for the likes of Evian, Nike and Campari, which showcased their unique perspective and fresh aesthetic. They have a gone on to create various acclaimed commercials, including Tomme Tippee ‘Everywhere You Look’, and most recently broadened their portfolio with short film ‘Present Day Athens’, which takes an irreverent look at a day in the life of a local sheriff in the dusty, forgotten town of Athens, TX.

Greg Hackett awarded at YDA

June 21st, 2019

Massive congratulations to our director Greg Hackett, whose film Tam Tam / Outside the Lines has just won Silver in the Passion Project section of the Young Director Awards at Cannes. The film tells the story of the Tam Tam basketball team, who were refused access to regional leagues because of the Italian born players’ immigration status.

This was a passion project in the truest sense of the phrase for Greg and everyone else involved, and we’re so happy to see it get this recognition. Thanks again to all those who were involved in making this such a special piece and to the Young Director Award for the accolade.
